AUTHOR BIOSMiguel Guerra was born and spent much of his childhood in Madrid, Spain, and nearby Alcalá de Henares. He’s the son of a Spanish mother and an African American father who was stationed in Madrid. Along with his older brother James, Miguel and his family later moved around the USA and settled in Canada. He speaks English and Spanish. Suzy Dias is a comic book creator, writer, and graphic designer for 7 Robots. She is also a Project Manager for a large financial data company in New York City. Her parents are from Portugal and settled in Toronto, Canada to raise a family of three girls. Suzy speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Their short stories have been featured in Heavy Metal (magazine) including: Bedbugs (July 2007), Insomnia (January 2010), and A Lonely Cry in Space (May 2010). Miguel was also the Spanish to English translator for Heavy Metal. His translations include Fantastic Art and Dark Labyrinth by Luis Royo, Lorna: The Black Castle by Alfonso Azpiri and Daily Delirium by Miguelanxo Prado. Miguel and Suzy met in university and were soon married. They made their way to New York City to try their luck. They found the city never sleeps because people never stop working, which was just fine with them. The New York vibe is intensely creative, cynical, and frenzied, all of which provides a deluge of story ideas. Miguel can’t stop sketching and Suzy writes children’s books and edits scripts while riding the subway to and from work. The city tapped into their creative juices and they haven’t looked back since. A few years ago, Miguel and Suzy had two wonderful children - Declan and Sofia - who brought their own inspiration with Super Kid Heroes. With a little help from Declan they also found a name for their company. When asked what he loves most, Declan narrowed it down to trains, trucks, and robots. Robots was everyone's hands down favorite. It’s a universal word that inspires a child’s curiosity and exemplifies modern scientific breakthroughs. Not bad for a three year old. Creators and PublishersMiguel and Suzy began publishing their own graphic novels and comics in 2006 under Iberian Press. Their first major title, Samurai Elf, is a five part graphic novel series about a naïve teen who is forced to live life on the edge after massive failures plunge his world into a global war. The key themes are friendship, war (lead-up and aftermath), nature vs. technology, and a coming of age. Volumes one and two appeared in 2006 and 2008 through Diamond Comic Distributors. In 2011, Iberian Press evolved into 7 Robots, Inc., a company with a wider field of view. 7 Robots provides a launchpad for Miguel and Suzy to create and produce anything they can imagine - comics, graphic novels, scripts, custom toys, and new ideas for products. December 2011 brought a brand new gift idea - Super Kid Heroes - where Miguel creates illustrations of kids as superheroes and adds any child’s face. How do we know kids love it? Our son gave us the idea. 2012 is a banner year with the publication of two new titles: Super Incorporated Heroes and Alric the Wild. Super Incorporated Heroes is a satirical comic book mini series that takes place in an alternate reality, where superheroes are real and they work for a living. The economy is in the toilet and a Machiavellian supervillain called the Invisible Hand secretly controls Wall Street and the direction of the nation. Alric the WIld is a quirky all-ages graphic novel series that introduces kids to major people and places in ancient history. If you cross Conan the Barbarian with SpongeBob SquarePants and add a sprinkling of Indiana Jones, you'll begin to understand Alric the Wild. The first volume is aptly named, Alric the WIld and the Flushing of Atlantis. |
